Important travel notes
- This is an eighteen-day journey with long driving days on rural roads — it asks for stamina, and is not a light trip.
- Carry valid government-issued photo identification for the train.
- The Samudra Pravas crossing at the river mouth depends on tide and weather conditions.
- Accommodation and food along the route are simple and vegetarian throughout.
- Carry all regular medicines with prescriptions — pharmacies are scarce between the larger towns.
- Several ghats and temples involve steps down to the water and long walks.
- Mobile network is patchy through the Amarkantak and upper-valley stretches.
