When to go

Pitru Paksha, the fortnight when Pind Daan is traditionally performed, brings very large crowds to Gaya — tell us if you want to travel in that window and we'll plan for it.

October – March
The comfortable season across the whole circuit.
April – June
Very hot on the plains — difficult for older travellers.
July – September
Monsoon. River levels rise and ghat access can be restricted.
Before you pack

Important travel notes

  • Carry valid government-issued photo identification for the train and flight.
  • Pind Daan is conducted by local pandas at Gaya and their charges are paid directly — they are not part of the package.
  • Mobile phones, cameras and leather items are not permitted inside Kashi Vishwanath; cloakrooms are available at the gates.
  • Queues at Kashi Vishwanath and Ram Janmabhoomi can be long, and security checks are strict at both.
  • Carry a change of clothes for the holy dip at the Sangam.
  • Boat services at the Sangam depend on river levels and the weather.
  • Elderly travellers should carry regular medicines and prescriptions; several temples involve steps and long walks.

Optional experiences

These can be added to the package at an additional cost.

  • Special darshan tickets where available
  • Sarnath excursion from Varanasi
  • Sunrise boat ride on the Ganga
  • Additional nights at Varanasi
